It got harder and harder to find frames which are suitably fantastic, so I’ve been cutting out my own frame shapes…

One off, hand painted boards. Will anybody dare to ride these? I hope so!

Translocator is artworks within artworks. On a macro level, the gallery is an installation piece, a considered artwork in its own right. On a micro level, individual smaller artworks create the larger picture.

By taking a gallery space and filling it up with streams of consciousness I wanted to create a world in which to envelop visitors. Translocator is a shift away from staid, formal, exhibition presentations. It incorporates painting, drawing, video, and interactive elements. It invites visitors to intimately engage with the space.

Most of the works in Translocator are drawing based, mixed media pieces on paper. The materials used include old wallpaper, graph paper, coffee, tea, drawing inks, water colours, acrylic paint, wine stains, pencil, ball point pens, discarded packaging, street posters and printing inks.

My exhibition artwork is characterised by the reckless approach I have towards making images; embracing mistakes and often intentionally ‘damaging’ the work in order to create unexpected results. I often choose art materials based on my lack of control over them and I rarely have any idea what I will end up with when I begin a new piece. Letting go of the process in this way helps me to create artworks which are streams of consciousness rather than formal considered designs.
